Coffee Filter Flowers

These are really easy and very inexpensive flower crafts kids can make. This is a great craft idea for kids of all ages but the little ones will really have lots of fun watching the colors blend together.

Supplies

  • 1 Coffee Filter (per flower)
  • 1 Green Pipe Clener
  • Food Coloring
  • Spray Bottle of Water
  • Wax Paper

How to Make a Coffee Filter Flower

Step 1: Fold the coffee filter into quarters.

Step 2: Dampen the filter using your spray bottle.

Tip: Don’t soak the filter. Just a few sprays should be enough.

Step 3: Add drops of food coloring onto the damp filter in any pattern.

Step 4: Press the filter between two pieces of waxed paper to help spread the color.

Step 5: Open the filter and place on a paper towel to dry.

Step 6: Once the filter is dry, refold into quarters brining to a point at the bottom.

Step 7: Twist the end of a green pipe cleaner around the point. Leave the rest of the pipe cleaner for the stem. You can even fold a leaf in the middle of the pipe cleaner.

Tip: You may need to shape your coffee filters a bit by fanning them out. You can make some flowers more open and others smaller by leaving it more closed up.

Another way to do this flower craft idea is to use washable markers. Just lay your filter flat on a paper towel. Draw on your design with the markers. Then spritz the filter in the middle with the water and watch the colors blend. It could take up to 5 minutes for the water to reach all the way to the end. Let these dry and fold according to the directions above.
