How to Make a CD Mirror Mobile

Step 1: Cover the non reflective side of the CD (the side with the words or labels) with construction paper or stick a CD label on this side.

Step 2: Decorate the covered side if you want.

Step 3: Lightly buff the reflective side of the CD to remove as many scratches and smudges as you can.

Step 4: Cut several strips of colorful ribbon at different lengths. Attach the ribbon to the CDs using hot glue.

Step 5: Take 2 wire clothes hangers and place one through the other so that the sides are each pointing in different directions. Wrap one or two pipe cleaners around the top to hold the two hangers together and in place.

Optional: You can cover the entire coat hangers for a prettier and softer look if you want.

Step 6: Now tie the ribbons with the CDs to the coat hanger creating different lengths of the reflective CDS.

Step 7: Hang your mobile somewhere so that the kids can see their reflection again and again as this mobile moves about.

An alternative to using CDs is simply using cardboard covered with reflective wrapping paper. You can cut the cardboard into different shapes to make it fun and a learning shapes craft as well.

Another kids craft idea for learning all about the sight sense is to create a fun house mirror. Kids love to explore reflections in a mirror especially a reflection of themselves. This fun house mirror craft will give the kids a distorted reflection of themselves and they will laugh at what they see.

Buy a piece of mylar and place it in an old mirror frame. Cut the mylar about 1 to 2 inches longer than the mirror. This way when you place it in the frame you can simply push the mylar to create a convex or concave curve.

To create a concave, simply push gently from the front of the poster board until it creates a curve backwards in the mirror. A concave curve in a fun house mirror will make you look taller than you are (or a stretched look).
